Validity of Austrian vignettes

• Same-day validity: If the vignette is set to start on the day of purchase, it is valid from the time of successful purchase until 23:59 on that day.

The 2-month vignette is also valid on all vignette-required highways and is considered time-based. However, it requires some planning before purchase, because it can only be purchased for a future date — starting no earlier than the 18th day after the purchase date.

Why is the 2-month vignette not valid immediately in Austria?

In Austria, the 2-month vignette cannot be purchased with immediate validity. It only becomes valid on the 18th day after the purchase.

This is due to European consumer protection law, which generally allows a 14-day withdrawal period for online purchases. Additionally, in case of postal withdrawal, 4 extra days are added, resulting in the 18-day delay.

Annual Austrian vignette

Like the 2-month vignette, the annual highway vignette cannot be used immediately. It becomes valid at the earliest 18 days after purchase.
