Slovakia Highway Vignette Categories
The Slovak highway vignette is available exclusively in electronic form and must be purchased for the following vehicle categories:
- For vehicles under 3.5 tons in total weight,
- For two-track vehicles in category M1, regardless of their maximum permissible weight,
- For trailers in categories O1 and O2, if the combined technically permissible maximum weight of the towing vehicle (category M1 or N1) and the trailer exceeds 3.5 tons.
If the towing vehicle’s total weight does not exceed 3.5 tons, then no separate highway vignette is required for the trailer.
Slovak Highway Vignette Types
The highway vignettes required for using toll roads in Slovakia come with different validity periods. These are time-based and grant access to all toll sections in the country:
1 Day Slovak Vignette
The one-day vignette is valid on all toll roads in Slovakia from the moment of purchase until 11:59 PM on the same day. If a future date is selected, the vignette is valid from 0:00 (12AM) to 23:59 (11:59 PM) on that chosen calendar day.
Example for Same-Day Validity: If you purchase a 1-day vignette on August 3 at 15:26 (3:26PM), it will be valid from the time of purchase until 23:59 (11:59PM) on August 3.
Example for Future-Date Validity: If you buy a 1-day vignette on June 16 and select June 25 as the start date, the vignette will be valid from 0:00 (12AM) to 23:59 (11:59PM) on June 25.
It is important to note, however, that the future date can be selected no more than 2 months in advance. This means that if you want to buy a vignette in July for a day in December, you must wait at least until October to make the purchase.
10 Days Slovak Vignette
The 10-day Slovak highway vignette can be purchased with immediate validity or for a future date as well.
- Same-Day Validity: If the start of validity is the day of purchase, the vignette is valid from the moment of purchase (first day), and for 9 additional consecutive calendar days, until 23:59 (11:59PM) on the last day.
Example: If a 10-day vignette is purchased on July 10 at 12:23 (12:23PM), it will expire on July 19 at 23:59 (11:59PM).
- Future-Date Validity: If a future date is selected as the start of validity on the day of purchase, the vignette will be valid from 0:00 (12AM) on the selected day (first day), and for 9 additional consecutive calendar days, until 23:59 (11:59PM) on the last day.
Example: If a 10-day vignette is purchased on June 16 and June 25 is selected as the start of validity, the vignette will be valid from 0:00 (12AM) on June 25 until July 4 at 23:59 (11:59PM).
It is important to note, however, that the future date can be selected no more than 2 months in advance. This means that if you want to buy a vignette in July for a day in December, you must wait at least until October to make the purchase.
30 Days Slovak Vignette
The 30-day Slovak highway vignette is valid on all toll roads and can be purchased with either immediate or future validity.
- Same-Day validity: If the validity starts on the day of purchase, the vignette will be valid from that day until 23:59 (11:59PM) on the 29th day after.
Example: If the vignette is purchased on May 30 and that same day is selected as the start date, it will be valid from May 30 until June 28 at 23:59 (11:59 PM).
- Future-Date Validity: If a future date is selected, the vignette will be valid from the chosen calendar day for 30 consecutive days, until 23:59 (11:59 PM) on the last day.
Example: If the vignette is purchased on May 30 but the start date is set to June 16, it will be valid from 0:00 (12 AM) June 16 to July 15, until 23:59 (11:59 PM) on the final day.

365 Days Slovak Vignette
The 365-day vignette is a unique option compared to neighbouring European countries, as it is not tied to the calendar year. Instead, it is valid for 365 days starting from the date of purchase or from a selected future date.
Toll Roads in Slovakia
Purchasing a highway vignette is mandatory for using toll sections. For foreign drivers, gathering information about the toll roads in the destination country before departure is essential – especially in the case of Slovakia, where the road network is constantly expanding and changing. In Slovakia, the presence of a valid highway vignette is checked through:

- Physical inspection units on the highways.
The regulation of Slovak highway vignettes- including the method of payment, definition of toll road sections, and inspection procedures- is governed by Act No. 488/2013. According to this law, compliance with toll payment obligations is monitored by the National Motorway Company (Národná Diaľničná Spoločnosť) and by authorized personnel of the toll administration body in cooperation with the police.
In addition, the electronic camera system installed along the motorways records the license plates of passing vehicles and cross-checks them with the e-vignette database to verify if the vehicle has valid road usage rights.
Due to these electronic and mobile physical inspections, vignette checks are nearly unavoidable. Therefore, it is strongly recommended to purchase the required vignette before entering any toll road section.

According to Slovak law, the highway vignette must always be purchased before entering a toll road section. Failure to purchase the vignette may result in a fine of €150; however, it is advisable to pay it within 15 days, as the amount of the fine will be lower.
