Information – Validity, Types, and Prices
In Slovenia, highways and expressways are subject to tolls, with only a few exceptions. The toll road network exceeds 610 km, and vehicles under 3.5 tons must have an electronic highway vignette to use these roads. The Slovenian highway vignette must be purchased based on the vehicle's license plate number before entering any toll road!

In Slovenia, toll roads and the payment system are regulated by law, which also determines the cost of road usage rights. Based on this, the Slovenian highway vignette prices for 2026 are as follows:

Slovenia Highway Vignette Toll Classes
Highway vignettes in Slovenia are divided into different toll classes based on the characteristics of the vehicle. Accordingly, three toll categories are currently in effect:
- 1A – Motorcycles
- 2A – Passenger cars and camper vans
- 2B – Vans and light trucks
Toll Class 1A – Motorcycle Vignette Category Slovenia
Toll category 1A applies to single-track vehicles with a track width not exceeding 50 cm. This category includes all motorcycles that are suitable for highway use.
Toll Class 2A – Passenger Cars and SUVs Vignette Category Slovenia
This class includes all two-track vehicles and their trailers with a maximum total weight of 3.5 tons and a height above the front axle not exceeding 1.3 meters. Vehicles in this class include:
- Passenger cars,
- Certain camper vans,
- SUVs,
- Off-road vehicles and
- Pickups.
Toll Class 2B – Light Trucks Vignette Category Slovenia
The 2B category includes vehicles with a total weight not exceeding 3.5 tons but with a height above the front axle greater than 1.3 meters. Based on this, the following vehicles fall into this category:
- Light trucks,
- Minibuses and
- Vans.
Slovenia Highway Vignette Types
In addition to toll classes, various types of Slovenian highway vignettes are available, based on their time-based validity:
Weekly Vignette Slovenia
In Slovenia, the vignette with the shortest validity is the weekly highway vignette. It can be purchased for all three toll categories, either with immediate validity or for a future date.
- Same-Day Validity: If the start of validity is the day of purchase, the vignette is valid from the moment of purchase (first day), and for 6 additional consecutive calendar days, until 23:59 (11:59PM) on the last day.
Example: If a weekly vignette is purchased on July 10 at 12:23 (12:23PM), it will expire on July 16 at 23:59 (11:59PM).
- Future-Date Validity: If a future date is selected as the start of validity on the day of purchase, the vignette will be valid from 0:00 (12AM) on the selected day (first day), and for 6 additional consecutive calendar days, until 23:59 (11:59PM) on the last day.
Example: If a weekly vignette is purchased on June 16 and June 25 is selected as the start of validity, the vignette will be valid from 0:00 (12AM) on June 25 until July 1 at 23:59 (11:59PM).
When purchasing in advance, the first day of validity can be set no more than 30 days in the future. This means, for example, that in June you cannot buy a weekly vignette with validity starting in August!
Monthly Vignette Slovenia
The monthly highway vignette in Slovenia is only available for vehicles in the 2A and 2B toll classes, meaning this type is not available for motorcycles. The monthly vignette is valid on all toll roads throughout Slovenia and can be purchased with either immediate or future start dates.
- Same-Day Validity: If the start date is the day of purchase, the vignette is valid from the moment of purchase until 23:59 (11:59PM) on the same day of the following month.
Example: If you purchase a monthly vignette on June 12 and select the same day as the start date, it will be valid from the time of purchase until July 12 at 23:59 (11:59PM).
- Future-Date Validity: The vignette is valid from 0:00 (12AM) on the selected calendar date until 23:59 (11:59PM) on the same day of the following month.
Example: If you purchase a monthly vignette on June 6 and select June 20 as the start date, it will be valid from June 20 at 0:00 (12AM) until July 20 at 23:59 (11:59PM).
When purchasing in advance, the first day of validity can be set no more than 30 days in the future. This means, for example, that in June you cannot buy a monthly vignette with validity starting in August!
How long is my vignette valid if I purchase it on the 31st, but the following month only 30 days?
The monthly vignette is always valid from the start date until the same day of the following month. If that day does not exist, the vignette is valid until 23:59 (11:59PM) on the previous day.
Example: If you purchase a monthly vignette on May 31, it will be valid until June 30 at 23:59 (11:59PM).
Half year Vignette Slovenia
The half year vignette is available only for vehicles in toll category 1, i.e., motorcycles. It is an excellent option for riders who use Slovenia’s toll road network multiple times during the riding season.
- Same-Day Validity: If the validity begins on the day of purchase, the vignette is valid from the moment of purchase until 23:59 (11:59 PM) on the same calendar day six months later.
Example: If you purchase the vignette on June 12 and select that day as the start date, it will be valid until December 12 at 23:59 (11:59 PM).
- Future-Date Validity: When buying in advance, the vignette is valid from the selected calendar date until 23:59 (11:59 PM) on the same date six months later.
Example: If you purchase the vignette on June 6 but choose June 20 as the start date, it will be valid from June 20 at 0:00 (12:00 AM) until December 20 at 23:59 (11:59 PM).
When purchasing in advance, the first day of validity can be set no more than 30 days in the future. This means, for example, that in June you cannot buy a half year vignette with validity starting in August!
Yearly Vignette Slovenia
The annual vignette is valid on all toll roads in Slovenia and can be purchased for all toll classes, with either immediate or future start dates. Unlike the standard calendar-year vignettes in some countries, the Slovenian yearly vignette grants 365 days of validity from the start date.
- Same-Day Validity: If the validity begins on the day of purchase, the vignette is valid from the moment of purchase until 23:59 (11:59 PM) on the same calendar day of the following year.
Example: If you buy the yearly vignette on June 12 and select that day as the start date, it will be valid until June 12 of the following year at 23:59 (11:59 PM).
- Future-Date Validity: When buying in advance, the vignette is valid from the selected start date until 23:59 (11:59 PM) on the same date one year later.
Example: If you buy the vignette on June 6 but select June 20 as the start date, it will be valid from June 20 at 0:00 (12:00 AM) until June 20 of the following year at 23:59 (11:59 PM).
When purchasing in advance, the first day of validity can be set no more than 30 days in the future. This means, for example, that in June you cannot buy a yearly vignette with validity starting in August!
Toll Roads in Slovenia
In the Republic of Slovenia, toll road sections can only be used with a valid highway vignette. The vignette must always be purchased before entering a toll highway or expressway, and it must correspond to the correct toll category of the vehicle.

Karawanks Tunnel
The Karawanks Tunnel connects Austria’s A11 highway with Slovenia’s A2 highway. The tunnel is 7,864 meters long, and its use requires the purchase of a separate tunnel toll, which costs €9. This fee can be paid at the toll booth using a bank card or cash.
Keep in mind that an additional Austrian e-vignette may be required for your journey. It’s recommended to purchase it before departure!
Highway Vignette Inspection in Slovenia
Highway vignettes in Slovenia are monitored in several ways:
- Through a fixed electronic camera system, and
- Via mobile toll inspection vehicles.
Vignette inspections are carried out by the Motorway Company in the Republic of Slovenia (DARS), the Financial Administration of the Republic of Slovenia, and the Police. Cameras automatically check, based on license plates, whether a vehicle has a valid e-vignette. If no valid vignette is detected, the system stores the necessary data until the administrative offense process is completed.
Highway Vignette Penalties in Slovenia
Slovenian authorities take unauthorized use of toll roads very seriously. If a driver is caught using a toll road without a valid vignette, the vehicle owner is not only subject to a hefty fine, but is also required to purchase the appropriate vignette retroactively for the period of unauthorized use.
This means that after driving without a valid e-vignette, one must pay both the fine and the appropriate highway vignette.

Fines can be issued not only for forgetting to buy the e-vignette, but also in cases where the vehicle's license plate is swapped with another plate that already has a valid vignette. This is considered misuse and is penalized accordingly.

- Online e-vignette purchase, available as a digital product,
- At physical points of sale, also as a digital vignette.
Vignettes must always be purchased before entering a toll road, and the most efficient and convenient method is buying online.
When purchasing online, special attention must be paid to the correct entry of the following details:
- Select the correct category: passenger car, motorcycle, light commercial vehicle, minibus, camper, or other.
- Enter the correct license plate details: the country code (the country where the car is registered) and the license plate number.
- Specify the correct validity period: whether purchasing a vignette valid immediately or for a future date, it is crucial to ensure that the vignette is valid on the travel date before starting the journey.
Incorrectly entered data may result in a fine, as incorrect information means the vehicle is considered to be without a valid highway vignette. Therefore, it is essential to double-check all details during the purchase process.
After entering vignette details, you will need to provide personal information, which is important to ensure that the confirmation email, receipt, and invoice are sent to the correct email address.
